Project Ringlight

My ringlight project has been one of several projects I've been working on lately. The ringlight is often used in music video production by providing some fill light but primarily it's used to create this unique circular reflection in the subject's eye when shooting closeups.

My version is a 22" diameter ring with 12 halogen PAR20 GU10 based bulbs. I currently have it globed with 50 watt bulbs which gives me a T 11 1/2 at 5ft at 500 ASA! At that strength it kind of re-defines the meaning of "eye-light". T 2-2.8 is much more tolerable. I'll have to try some 20 watt bulbs and build a frame for some ND gel. Dimmer would be an option but the colour temp sores way too warm for my liking for the amount I need to cut down. I still need to add a heavy duty cord switch and build a flight case - always something to do!

Shooting Bonanza

Just finished multiple days on a variety of shoots. All went well - mainly thanks to my fantastic camera assistant James - as seen in the pic below. I think this might be the new union photograph showing the ill effects of Camera guys touching electrical gear.

Will be shooting a short this weekend. Stay tuned for pictures and other good stuff...

New Video

Post-production was just completed on a music video I shot for JSN (based out of Montreal) and directed by Winston Hacking.

China Ball

The weekend has become "project weekend", a day to lock myself in my shop, tinker, and get all the custom rigs and equipment done and checked off the to-do list.

Finally got all the bits to finish off my china-ball "guts". With some adapters I'm gonna be able to put 4 bulbs in this thing! Who's ready for their closeup?!
