Project Ringlight
My ringlight project has been one of several projects I've been working on lately. The ringlight is often used in music video production by providing some fill light but primarily it's used to create this unique circular reflection in the subject's eye when shooting closeups.
My version is a 22" diameter ring with 12 halogen PAR20 GU10 based bulbs. I currently have it globed with 50 watt bulbs which gives me a T 11 1/2 at 5ft at 500 ASA! At that strength it kind of re-defines the meaning of "eye-light". T 2-2.8 is much more tolerable. I'll have to try some 20 watt bulbs and build a frame for some ND gel. Dimmer would be an option but the colour temp sores way too warm for my liking for the amount I need to cut down. I still need to add a heavy duty cord switch and build a flight case - always something to do!
