So after humming and hawing for about a year and a half I finally bit the bullet and bought a Litepanels Mini Plus unit. Between the countless times of needing an on-board solution, to needing that last minute eye-light, to being in places with no power, it was enough justification to get one. I don't think there's been a project in the last year and a half where I didn't at some point think "If only I had a Litepanels..."
I bought the Daylight Flood unit with the DV adapter plate so I could use all my existing Panasonic batteries. So far I've taken it out on 2 jobs and it's performed great. It's very fast to rig, being small and light weight, and I've clamped it to various places as a backlight or accent light. I have the 5/8" adapter, a hot-shoe adapter and a Noga Arm that gives me plenty of options. The dimmer also makes it fast and easy to fine-tune the shot. The included gel inserts (1/8-Full CTO, 216, 250, Opal and Lite Grid Cloth) are really easy to slide in and out or stack. The unit has just enough punch that you can gel the unit to tungsten and still have a decent amount of output. The best part though, in my opinion, is it's self contained design, running on batteries, so I don't have to wait on any AC cable.
The one thing I wish it did have was the digital gelling capability of the Zylight units. Maybe one day Litepanels will incorporate that.
Overall I'm really happy with it so far and I know it'll come with me on every job from here on out.
